A holiday cottage is similar to a weekend chalet – the major difference is that you usually use it as a one-time weekend getaway, or for hiking holiday, and not on a regular basis.

Renting an alpine hut for New Year´s Eve is also very popular. If you should plan to do so, be prepared to book for a long time in advance, as it could get very hard to find a nice holiday cottage around New Year´s Eve, or also Christmas time.

The purpose of a hunting lodge is to provide overnight accommodations in remote areas of a hunting ground. They are usually of simple design, and provide shelter to hunters and hunting dogs.

Tourist huts are alpine chalets, which are used for gastronomic business. Sometimes, they also offer overnight accommodation, often in the form of dormitories for up to 10-15 people.

Ski huts you can usually find on ski resorts along slopes or at the top stations of cable railways. The floors and sanitary rooms in ski huts are usually built of very robust in order to avoid damages of people´s ski shoes.

The main purpose of shelters – as the name says – is to give shelter to hikers and climbers in the case of bad weather.

Shelters are usually very simple and often consist of one room only without any sanitary equipment, water- or power supply.

There are also catered alpine huts with the possibility of overnight accommodation. In this case, they are similar to tourist huts. Alpinist associations are usually operating catered shelters in the mountains.
